Sabouraud Dextrose Agar SMH063 For cultivation of C.albicans in accordance with the harmonized method of USP/EP/BP/JP. Composition** Ingredients Gms / Litre Mycological, peptone 10.000 Dextrose 40.000 Agar 15.000 **Formula adjusted, standardized to suit performance parameters Directions. It is a ready-to-use solid medium in a glass bottle. The medium is pre-sterilized; hence, it does not need sterilization. The medium in the bottle can be melted either by using a pre-heated water bath or any other method. Slightly loosen the cap before melting. When complete melting of the medium is observed, dispense the medium as desired and allow it to solidify.

Sabouraud Dextrose Agar (SDA) is a specialized growth medium widely used for cultivating fungi, particularly yeasts and molds. Its composition includes dextrose as a primary carbon source, peptone for nitrogen and growth factors, and agar as a solidifying agent, typically adjusted to a slightly acidic pH of around 5.6 to inhibit bacterial growth while promoting fungal development.
SDA is instrumental in isolating fungi from various sources, such as clinical specimens and food, and is commonly employed for identifying yeast species like Candida. Variants of the medium may include antibiotics like chloramphenicol to further suppress bacterial contamination. Incubated at temperatures ranging from 25 to 30°C, SDA provides an ideal environment for the growth and study of a diverse array of fungal organisms, making it a critical tool in microbiology and clinical laboratories.
