📋 Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. Collect Water Sample
-
Rinse the test tube or comparator cell with the water to be tested.
-
Fill the test tube up to the marked line (usually 10 mL) with the sample water.
2. Add the Tablet
-
Remove one Phenol Red Rapid Tablet from the blister pack.
-
Drop one tablet into the water sample.
3. Crush and Mix
-
Cap the test tube and shake gently until the tablet is completely dissolved.
-
These are “rapid” dissolving tablets, so crushing may not be necessary.
-
If undissolved, use a clean stirring rod to help.
-
4. Observe the Color Change
-
The solution will turn a shade of red, indicating the pH level.
-
Wait a few seconds for the color to stabilize.
5. Compare the Color
-
Place the test tube into the comparator block.
-
Match the solution’s color with the comparator scale to determine the pH value.
📌 Notes:
-
Ideal pH for pool water: 7.2 – 7.6
-
If color is orange/yellow → pH is low
-
If color is dark red/purple → pH is high
-
Avoid touching the tablet with wet hands—it may start reacting prematurely.
-
Always store tablets in a cool, dry place.
